Our bodies are equipped with a DNA system and when injured, the body sends out the correct signals and tools which enable it to repair itself and heal. As the needle punctures the skin a wound is created which heals in 3 phases - inflammation, proliferation and tissue remodelling. When the needle enters the skin, it starts the inflammation phase. Fibroblasts cells that give rise to connective tissue move into the affected area and start to produce collagen and elastin to help the healing process. Although the procedure does damage the skin and cause minor bleeding, the skin is essentially regenerating itself. Following a treatment, the area is left with a fine red scratch mark, which forms a scab and heals within 5-7 days.
Some clients notice the benefit after just one treatment; others may require 5/6 treatments, one month apart - it is purely down to the bod's own repair system. What is known is how long the benefits will last, so we recommend a yearly maintenance.
Sometimes the dermal channel is blocked either side by scar tissue and excess collagen. This is what can give a scar its white shiny appearance. The scar as well as the edges of the scar need to be stimulated so that the healing process and the renew and repair process allow the area to then repigment.
